Reflection On School Budgeting

This past week we discussed the role of the Secretary (Book keeper in some campuses), Department Chair, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Site Based team in the budgeting process. The assignment you are required to post is to list five things that you personally learned about the budgeting process from this assignment. Please be thorough and thoughtful in your responses.

Assignment 1 - School Budget Interview

This blogsite is to be used in conjuction with the syllabus for School Finance at Texas A&M University, Tuesday night class offered by Dr. David Herrington. This will be linked with Blackboard when it becomes operational in the course with the assistance of Dr. Jim Jurica.

The assignment issued on February 8 is to interview your campus entities most involved in the budgeting process. I challenged you to select 3 key players from among the principal, vice principal, secretary, book keeper, department head, site-based committee.

The questions provided on the board were:

1. What is the timeline for the budgeting process on your campus from beginning to end?
2. What role do you play in the budget process?
3. What are the biggest challenges or issues you face in getting the budgeting process to work?
4. How do yo see the curent financial crisis in the state affecting the way this campus allocates its resources.

Please bring your interviews to class as hard copy. After next week's class discussion you will be asked to reflect on what you learned about the campus budgeting process. Do not respond on this site until after class next week class on February 15.
